Niddy Noddy How-To: Niddy Noddy and Bag

 Bag Pattern

Cut:

(2) 8 ¼” X 22 ½” Lining

(2) 8 ¼” X 22 ½” Outer Fabric

(2) 8 ¼” X 22 ½” Interfacing

(1) 2 ½” x length of lining fabric for tie

Right sides together (for lining and outer fabric). Stitch bottoms ½”. Optional: stitch down seams each side.

Stitch sides together, leaving openings as in diagrams. Iron seams open. Optional: Stitch around opening of Outer Fabric 1/8”.

Box bottom corners for outer fabric and lining.

Leave outer fabric wrong sides out. Turn lining right sides out and place inside outer fabric.

Stitch ½” around top. Turn all out through side opening in lining. Sew lining shut. Press all together.

 Casing:

Stitch around the top of the bag 1 ½” from top of bag and 2 ¾” from top of bag. Turn down 1/4" on each end of tie. Stitch down.

Fold tie in half with right sides together. Stitch with ¼” seam.

Use bodkin to turn right side out. Tuck in ends. Stitch around ends and sides. Press. Thread through casing opening.

Making the Niddy Noddy: The pieces I cut for one Niddy Noddy include a 15.5-inch piece for measuring 2-yard skeins and (5) 5.5-inch pieces for the arms and for the 1-yard skein stems. T-joints hold all of this together and the end caps are optional, but will keep your yarn from sliding off the arms if you need to store it on the Noddy for a while. A 2.5-inch piece can be used for the stem to make pompoms. You can cut PVC with a hack saw, but a PVC cutter will make life much easier if you plan to make several, and it will make much cleaner cuts.
